Mt. Nebo

Thursday Dec.18th '08
Day 2 began with a drive to Mt. Nebo some 30 km south of Amman. On this mountain, the Lord showed Moses the Promised Land ... however Moses never had the chance to enter this land.
The season here was mild winter and the vegetation dry and brown. On the way up the mountain, I could see beautiful and majestic pine trees brimming with cones too.

When we arrived, we celebrated our first private mass with Bishop James in a small building on the mountain which was taken care of by the Franciscan Friar. The Bible reading taken from Deuteronomy 34:1-5 told of Mosses death and his burial in the plains of Moab.

Here was our Jordanian guide Paul who was explaining the excavation of a temple at the Mt. Nebo site ...the artifacts found at the site were displayed on the grounds of the museum here.

I was in awe when I looked at the spectacular view from Mt. Nebo. From a sign planted up there we could see the direction of the Dead Sea, Jordan Valley , Jerico, Bethleham and even Jeruselum. And of course there were olive trees around too.
